Whether you expect to move soon or are simply exploring what could come next, the benefits of joining a life plan community waitlist go well beyond holding a place in line. Joining early can give you more time to get to know the community, wait for a home that fits your preferences, prepare for downsizing, and make decisions while you have flexibility. At Holly Creek, it can also give you a chance to begin experiencing life at the community before your move.

How Does a Life Plan Community Waitlist Work?
A life plan community waitlist is a list of prospective residents who want to be contacted when a suitable home becomes available. The process is generally simple, allowing individuals to plan ahead without committing to an immediate move.
At Holly Creek, joining the priority waitlist involves a few straightforward steps:
- Submit an application and deposit: Complete a simple agreement and place a nominal, refundable deposit to secure your place on the priority list.
- Share your home preferences: Let our team know which residence styles you are considering, whether that is a one- or two-bedroom apartment home or a spacious cottage home.
- Receive priority notification: When a home matching your preferences becomes available, our community team reaches out to let you know about the opportunity.
Being on a waitlist does not mean you have to move right away. Holly Creek’s Where to Begin guide encourages prospective residents to spend time in the community while they wait, whether that means attending an event, meeting future neighbors, or simply becoming more familiar with daily life at Holly Creek.
What Are the Benefits of Joining a Life Plan Community Waitlist?
Planning a move to a retirement community does not have to happen all at once. A waitlist gives you an opportunity to experience the things that shape daily life, including homes, amenities, programs, financial considerations, and the overall feel of the community.
It also gives you time to think about future needs. A life plan community offers independent living along with access to additional levels of support if your needs change. At Holly Creek, our senior living options include a full continuum of care, from assisted living and memory support to skilled nursing and rehabilitation.
Becoming a Part of the Community Before You Move
One of the most meaningful benefits of a waitlist is the opportunity to experience a community before move-in day. Tours are helpful, but spending time with residents and participating in community life can give you a better sense of what it would actually feel like to live there.
Ken and Betty Detweiler did exactly that before moving to Holly Creek. While still on the priority waitlist, Betty joined the choir and Bible study, and the couple attended weekly lunches at the Bistro. Betty said, “I joined Holly Creek’s choir as a total stranger but now some of the members are my best friends.”
That kind of early connection can make a future move feel more familiar. Holly Creek offers dining, fitness and wellness opportunities, arts, music, theater, and resident-led clubs and groups. Spending time in the community can help you discover what interests you and begin building relationships before you unpack a single box.

Time to Declutter Before Downsizing
A waitlist also gives you something that is easy to underestimate during a move: time. Once you know where you want to live and how much space you are planning for, you can start downsizing gradually instead of sorting through years of belongings on a tight deadline.
Having this extra runway allows you to handle the physical and emotional aspects of moving at a comfortable pace:
- Sort through possessions thoughtfully: Decide what to keep, sell, donate, or pass down to family members without feeling rushed.
- Plan your new space: Measure your favorite furniture pieces to visualize exactly how they will fit into your future floor plan.
- Coordinate logistics early: Consult with family and research senior move managers or moving services well in advance.
Increased Opportunity to Choose Your Floor Plan
The earlier you begin planning, the more flexibility you may have to wait for a home that fits the way you want to live. Holly Creek currently offers 17 floor plan options, including apartment layouts and two cottage floor plans, giving prospective residents a range of layouts, sizes, and features to consider.
Availability can change, and senior housing occupancy is also rising across the country. In July 2026, the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care reported that senior housing occupancy across the 31 primary markets it tracks reached 89.9% in the second quarter of 2026. Fifteen of those markets were at or above 90% occupancy, and NIC said demand was outpacing new construction.
Those are national figures rather than a Holly Creek-specific occupancy rate, but they show why planning ahead can matter. A waitlist can give you more time to wait for a layout that suits your priorities rather than making a decision based only on what is available at one moment.

Peace of Mind for You and Your Family
Having a plan in place can bring relief to both you and the people who may help with a future move. It gives everyone a clearer understanding of what you want and what steps may need to happen next.
For families, having these decisions made in advance can make future transitions easier to navigate. Taking time to ask questions, review financial details, and discuss your preferences with the people closest to you can reduce uncertainty later.
How Colorado’s Changing Demographics are Impacting Senior Living
Colorado is aging quickly, with especially strong growth expected among older age groups. According to the Colorado State Demography Office’s February 2026 population summary, the state’s population age 65 and older grew 3.1% from 2023 to 2024, compared with 1.0% growth for Colorado overall. The office projects that the 65-plus population will grow about 31% between 2020 and 2030.
Within that group, Coloradans ages 75 to 85 are expected to see the strongest growth over the next decade and a half as more Baby Boomers reach their later 70s and 80s. The state also projects that the number of Coloradans age 80 and older will more than triple over the next two decades.
As more Coloradans reach their later 70s and 80s, demand for senior living options is likely to rise. Exploring communities before a move becomes necessary can give older adults greater flexibility as that demand increases.
